hi ho stoqošlóq hi xus Chumash Bear Circle
hi ho stoqošlóq hi xus Chumash Bear Circle is a vibrant cultural group dedicated to reclaiming our heritage and land while fostering a strong sense of community among our people, who have Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) documentation.
Monthly programs revitalize Chumash traditions, celebrate cultural identity, and empower individuals within the community. At the heart of our activities is a profound connection to the land and a commitment to reclaiming ancestral territories. Through educational workshops, cultural ceremonies, and land stewardship initiatives, hi ho stoqošlóq hi xus aims to preserve and honor our sacred sites, language, and customs. Our programs provide a space for cultural reclamation, where community members can learn traditional practices such as making regalia, storytelling, and the cultural burns that were once banned in our homeland. These activities not only strengthen cultural ties, they also promote self-sufficiency and sustainability within the community.
The work of hi ho stoqošlóq hi xus extends beyond cultural preservation to advocate for Indigenous rights and environmental stewardship. We collaborate with local and regional organizations and institutions to protect sacred lands, advocate for Indigenous sovereignty, and promote conservation efforts that align with traditional Chumash values. With dedication, resilience, and unity, hi ho stoqošlóq hi xus embodies the spirit of cultural empowerment, inspiring our community to reclaim our heritage and forge a brighter future rooted in ancestral wisdom and connection to the land. Following in tradition, we are dedicated to uplifting, teaching and guiding our youth. As we continue to learn from our elders, we are committed to their care and needs as they age and transition.
