“Quizepahuit is his Chumash name, and Fernando Librado is the name the church gave him”

The board and friends of
Committees for Land, Air, Water and Species (CLAWS)
are delighted to announce our nonprofit fiscal sponsorship for
hi ho stoqošlóq hi xus Chumash Bear Circle
This vibrant local cultural group is dedicated to reclaiming Chumash heritage and land while fostering a strong sense of community. They revitalize Chumash traditions, celebrating cultural identity and empowering community members. At the heart of their activities is a profound connection to the land and a commitment to reclaiming ancestral territories. Through educational workshops, cultural ceremonies, and land stewardship initiatives, hi ho stoqošlóq hi xus Chumash Bear Circle aims to "preserve and honor our sacred sites, language, and customs."
Their work extends beyond cultural preservation to advocate for Indigenous rights and environmental stewardship, collaborating with local and regional organizations and institutions, including CLAWS, to "protect sacred lands, advocate for Indigenous sovereignty, and promote conservation efforts that align with traditional Chumash values… to forge a brighter future rooted in ancestral wisdom and connection to the land."
The board and friends of CLAWS are honored to serve this vital project as fiscal sponsor. We’re excited to support the flowering and growth of this collaboration, for the benefit of the land, air, water and species, including humans. Haku haku, hi ho stoqošlóq hi xus.
